THE Bulawayo Chess Association (BCA) is set to hold a special seminar in order to increase its match officials base. The seminar which will be held from the fourth and fifth of February 2023 in the city is currently utilising only two Arbiters (chess referee) who are Thabang Moyo and Thaddeus Ndebele.
“Our aim is to increase the number of Arbiters in the city of kings and afar. Currently there are only two qualified Arbiters to run tournaments. That is not good for the sport. Arbiters get remuneration for every tournament and this workshop is an investment. As the sport is growing, demand for Arbiters is also growing,” said the BCA secretary- general Thaddeus Ndebele who also doubles as the National Arbiter (NA).
“Being just two Arbiters, we are over stretched and we sometimes go for international duties, and the city is left stranded.” Added the BCA secretary- general.
The BCA, has pegged the seminar at US$50. The whole amount covers the seminar fee and the Zimbabwe Chess Federation (ZCF) affiliation fee plus certification.
Meanwhile, the Facilitators will be IA Simbarashe Murimi, NA Thabang Moyo and NA Thaddeus Ndebele.
