A musician based in the South African city of Cape Town, Norrycea Subzero Chisadza aka Norry C can be best described as the lone voice in the wilderness of Women’s Football preaching through his music the need to uplift Women who have chosen football as a career.
Currently making waves with an unapologetic dia tribe that is directed at Zimbabwe Football Association for neglecting women football. Through a song called ‘Fairplay’ Subzero said its high time Zimbabwe honors the lady footballer for waving the national flag high at various international events.
Zimbabwe National Women’s Football team, the Mighty Warriors are the only team since the 1980 ladies’ Hockey team to ever feature at the Olympics since Independence. They qualified for the 2016 Olympic football tournament and finished last in their group (containing Canada, Germany and Australia) after losing 6-1 to Germany, 3-1 to Canada and 6-1 to Australia. Though they didn’t do well at the Olympics, the mere fact that they appeared at this show piece deserves to be celebrated but these players have nothing to show for their heroics. ZIFA gave them US$5 and fired their coach Shadreck Mlauzi.
Subzero’s fairplay is taken off an album entirely dedicated at the Women’s Football called ‘Bhora MaBella’ . This controversial LP that is marketed and distributed by Ravel Entertainment is getting little airplay on the country’s radio stations, though it is a hit within the Women’s Football circles in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana.
“DJs at most radio stations have blacked out this album because l refused to part with the money that they demand. Imagine parting with as much as US$200 so that my music can be played. Payola Payola everywhere, l have resorted to push my music through alternative means like Social Media”, said Subzero(Norrycea Chisadza).
Subzero has been involved with recording music since 1997 when he was still a school boy at Oriel Boys School Chisipite.
He told Zim GBC News that his interest in the welfare of Women footballers was kindled by former Zimbabwe Women Soccer League boss Mavis Gumbo.
Subzero disclosed that his close friendship with Gumbo led him to tag along with her whenever there were high profile matches for the National team.
