The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has advised the business community in the city to use small trucks for delivery instead of haulage trucks because the so called ‘amagonyeti’ are too heavy for the CBD through fares.
This came out during a special Indaba between City Council and local business people which is part of the ongoing consultative meetings to find solutions to the menace of littering and congestion in Bulawayo.
“Before a business can start operating they should find an environment friendly way of containing waste and refuse. As for our roads, they now have potholes because heavy trucks that previously were not seen in residential and commercial areas are now a common site on these place’s roads that are meant for light vehicles”, the Bulawayo City Chamber Secretary Sikhangezile Zhou said during the Indaba held inside the Council Chambers at City hall on Wednesday the 11th of January 2023.
The Bulawayo Town Clerk Christopher Dube’ s representative chipped in by telling business people to keep most of their goods in warehouses located in Bulawayo’s Industrial areas such as Belmont, Steeldale and Kelvin.
“We need your cooperation in order for us to restore the city to its former glory. We expect you to follow council by-laws in order for BCC to provide you with a conducive environment for you to trade in. Areas like the CBD should be serviced by small trucks. When it comes to environment may you also spruce up your business premises”, he said.
