The City of Bulawayo town planning director Wisdom Siziba has disclosed that the EGodini Mall and terminus will be opened mid February this year.
“Private Developer TerraCotta has informed us that phase 1A of phase 1 would be complete by then”, said Siziba during an Indaba with stakeholders that was held on Monday at the city’s civic center popularly known as Tower Block.
“Phase 1A of phase 1 involves the creation of 550 bays which are almost done, connection of fire systems and water. By mid February the occupation of the facility should start assuming there would not be too much rain”, said the town planning director.
However, investigations by Zim GBC News seem to show that what may be commissioned in February may not be the giant shopping mall and bus terminus that is shown on the project’s artist impression.
Bulawayo residents and the nation at large were made to believe that EGodini Mall would be the largest shopping center in the city with facilities to house local and regional transporters. It seems like the new structure may just accommodate transporters and small to medium enterprises who have been allocated vending cubicles.
Zim GBC News could not get comment from the Director of TerraCotta who is based in South Africa because his phone was not reachable.
“The project was delayed by lock-down otherwise EGodini should have been reopened around mid April this year”, Moyo the director of TerraCotta was once quoted in the newspapers saying.
