Lobengula Rovers, a third Division outfit that is renowned for producing top tier players such as the Kutsanzira brothers (Rahman and Innocent), Vincent Sibanda, Arthur ‘Diego’ Musiyiwa and many others aims to churn out more potential stars in 2023.
This was disclosed by club founder and chairman Dumisani Netha in an interview with Zim GBC News.
“To us, football is more than just a game. We use this game to uplift people, foster unity and improve the standard of the community.” Netha said.
“Our aim is to get the youths off the streets through football. We also liaise with the community and implement some programs outside football for the benefit of Lobengula high density suburb and surrounding area’s,” he added.
Netha disclosed to Zim GBC News that there are some youngsters on the current roster that are most likely to be fast tracked from lower division ranks to the top. Players such as Siya, Ndlambanje, Wazi and Ndazula.
Netha said the team’s coaches work round the clock in order to identify raw talent from the streets and in the schools. Speaking of the players he thinks will break out of their nursery this year he said:
“You will see them, just remember them by their nicknames, Siya, Ndlambanje, Wazi and Ndazula.”
Lobengula Rovers was formed in 2013 by Dumisani Netha alongside Edson Munjani, Karen Johnson and Dumelitso Dube. It is a community team that has been struggling to stay afloat.
However, people like broadcaster Muziwethu Hadebe, Tumelitso ‘Drogba’ Ndlovu and other prominent son’s and daughters of Lobengula high density suburb have often bailed it out when faced with financial challenges.
