City’s Beloved Baby Doctor Dies: The Nation Mourns

Bulawayo is mourning the loss of Dr Taurai Gunguwo, a famous obstetrician and gynecologist who passed away on Sunday, 5 April. He reportedly succumbed to kidney failure.

Dr Gunguwo was a highly respected specialist in Bulawayo. Over his long career, he delivered thousands of babies and provided compassionate care to many families.

He was not just a doctor but a hero to many mothers who trusted him with their lives and the lives of their newborns.

“Doctor Gunguwo was a gentle, kind and loving doctor through out my delivery journey as he made me deliver both my two babies safely”, said Mellisa Ndlovu one of the mothers he helped.

Tributes described him as a dedicated, kind and gentle doctor. His clinical excellence was matched by his uncommon compassion. He treated every patient with warmth and respect.

“He was a gentle and kind Doctor I have ever met, my delivery journey became a success all because of his care”, said another mother he helped who preferred anonymity.

The medical fraternity across Zimbabwe is in deep mourning. Beyond his work in the hospital, Dr Gunguwo also contributed to medical literature and training materials.

Many former patients have taken to social media to share their stories, thanking him for saving their babies and being a source of hope during difficult times.
