Police in Bulawayo have arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with a murder case following a violent dispute over money allegedly obtained from the sale of a watch, in an incident that has once again raised concern over rising cases of interpersonal violence.
The suspect, Zibusiso Ndlovu of Nketa 9, is accused of killing 35-year-old Tonderai Blessing Sithole of Nketa 6 after a misunderstanding turned fatal.
In a statement, Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, speaking on behalf of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, said the two men had spent the morning of 11 March 2026 together before travelling to the Bulawayo Central Business District.
She said the accused later returned home alone, but at around 10pm, Sithole went to Ndlovu’s residence where a dispute arose. The argument allegedly centred on accusations that Sithole had withheld Ndlovu’s share of money from the sale of a watch.
Inspector Msebele said the disagreement escalated into violence, with the accused allegedly assaulting the victim repeatedly using various objects, resulting in serious injuries. Instead of seeking immediate medical assistance, the accused reportedly kept the injured man at his residence and attempted to care for him privately.
She added that in the early hours of 14 March, the victim’s condition deteriorated, prompting the accused to inform Sithole’s mother, who then called for an ambulance. However, the victim was already dead by the time medical personnel arrived.
A police report was subsequently made, leading to the arrest of Ndlovu, who is expected to appear in court facing a charge of murder as defined under Section 47 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Inspector Msebele urged members of the public to avoid using violence when resolving disputes, warning that such actions often lead to unnecessary loss of life. She also encouraged citizens to report any incidents of violence in progress to the police.
