Bindura – A domestic dispute over a missing husband escalated into physical violence at the Aerodrome suburb in Bindura, landing one co-wife in court after a heated exchange involving remarks about pants.
The matter was heard before the Bindura Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where Precious Matangira (30) appeared on charges of assault. She was convicted after pleading guilty to assaulting her co-wife, Ethel Mavhembu (23) .
Magistrate Seluleko Mathuthu fined Matangira US$150, with an alternative sentence of 45 days imprisonment should she fail to pay.
The court heard from Prosecutor Sheila Kudzai that the incident occurred on the night of 22 February at around 10 pm. Matangira arrived at Mavhembu’s residence, demanding to see their shared husband, Willard.
According to state papers, Mavhembu informed her that Willard was not home and offered to relay any message. The situation quickly deteriorated when Matangira insisted on searching for him, stating that Willard was also her husband—a man “who removes her pants.”
Unamused by the remark, Mavhembu responded in kind, triggering a fierce verbal argument. The confrontation turned physical when Matangira allegedly slapped Mavhembu several times.
The complainant subsequently opened a police report, leading to Matangira’s arrest.
The case has sparked amusement and debate among local residents, with many questioning the absence of the husband at the center of the drama.
Attempts to reach Willard for comment were unsuccessful.
