HARARE – The Zimbabwe Chess Federation (ZCF) has reminded players and officials intending to travel abroad for tournaments that they must obtain clearance from the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) through the Federation—and that only members in good standing will be processed.
In a notice dated 18 February 2026, ZCF Executive Director Tapiwa Gora emphasized that SRC clearance letters are strictly processed for affiliated members whose membership status is fully regularized.
“All individuals intending to apply for clearance are urged to ensure that their affiliation and membership status with ZCF is duly regularised prior to submitting any application,” read the statement from Gora.
The Federation further advised that clearance requests must be submitted at least 30 days before the intended travel date to allow for timely processing.
Early Bird Discounts Available Until March
In a move to encourage early registration, ZCF reminded stakeholders that Early Bird discounted subscription fees remain valid until 31 March 2026.
“This presents an excellent opportunity to renew or secure membership at a reduced rate,” Gora noted, directing members to consult the 2026 Annual Affiliation and Registration Notice for applicable fees.
Training Dates Shifted to Avoid NASH District Games Clash
In a separate development, the Zimbabwe Chess Federation announced adjustments to its upcoming Arbiter, Trainer, and Organiser training workshop following consultations with school sports bodies.
The Federation noted an overlap between the initially scheduled training dates (19-20 February 2026) and the National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) district games, set for 20 February 2026.
“Following constructive consultations with both associations, the Federation has revised the Training timetable to accommodate coaches and teachers who are bringing students to the games to ensure maximum participation,” ZCF announced.
Accordingly, the training program has been aligned with the games and rescheduled to 21-22 February 2026 at Dominican Convent High School in Harare.
Training Targets Aspiring Chess Officials
The two-day workshop, running Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Sunday from 8am to 1pm, aims to equip individuals seeking to become District, Provincial, or National Arbiters, Trainers, and Organisers.
Organizers have noted that this session presents an opportunity for upgrade for those already holding District Arbiter Certificates.
Registration fee is set at US$60, with the deadline for registration set for Wednesday 18 February 2026.
