BULAWAYO – Police have arrested a 19-year-old man from Tshabalala in connection with the theft of a Honda Fit that was parked at a local church.
In a statement released on Wednesday, police confirmed the arrest of Julio Junior Nyoni, a male adult aged 19, of Tshabalala, Bulawayo, for theft of a motor vehicle.
According to police, the incident occurred on February 15, 2026, at around 8:00 AM. The complainant, a 26-year-old male adult from Tshabalala Extension, parked his Honda Fit near the church entrance, secured it, and went inside for services.
At around 12:00 PM, the complainant returned to where he had parked his vehicle, only to discover it had been stolen. He immediately made a report to the police.
Acting on information received from the public, police tracked down the stolen vehicle later that evening.
“On the same date at around 2030 hours, Police received information that the stolen motor vehicle was dumped in Tshabalala Bulawayo,” read the statement from police.
“They acted on the information which led to the recovery of the vehicle and subsequently arrest of the accused person who had dumped the vehicle and ran away.”
Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the Bulawayo Provincial Press and Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest and commended members of the community for their vigilance.
“We applaud the members of the public for providing positive information that led to the arrest of the accused person and recovery of the motor vehicle.”
Police have also taken the opportunity to urge motorists to exercise greater caution when parking their vehicles, particularly in public spaces such as churches and shopping centres.
“We urge motorists to improve security of their vehicles and install car trackers so that it becomes easy tracking in case it is stolen,” Inspector Msebele added.
Nyoni is expected to appear in court soon facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle.
