‎Two Bulawayo men have appeared before the Tredgold Magistrates’ Court facing attempted murder charges following an alleged brick attack that left a 28-year-old man hospitalised.

‎Brian Ncube (25) and Brighton Ncube (27) appeared before Magistrate Mr Maniwere. The State was represented by prosecutor Madam Nomthandazo Mafu.

‎The pair is charged with contravening Section 189 as read with Section 47 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23, namely attempted murder.

‎The State alleges that on 01 January 2026 at around 1530 hours, at Number 20 Sotshangane Flats in Nguboyenja, Bulawayo, the two accused acted in common purpose with two other suspects, identified as Markingtorch Sibanda and Nguquko Sibanda, who are still at large.

‎It is alleged that the accused unlawfully attacked Mthokozisi Nkiwane, a 28-year-old man residing at 20 Sotshangane Flats, Nguboyenja, and employed at Dat 3. The complainant and the accused persons are not related.

‎The court heard that the accused struck Nkiwane once on the back of the head with a brick, realising that there was a real risk or possibility that death might result from their actions.

‎Following the assault, Nkiwane reportedly fell to the ground and became unconscious. He later regained consciousness at Mpilo Central Hospital, where he was receiving treatment.

‎The complainant sustained a head injury, and the State indicated that a medical report will be produced in court as evidence. Prosecutors allege that the accused persons acted unlawfully when they carried out the attack.

‎The case highlights the serious consequences of violent conduct, particularly when weapons are used in disputes. Attempted murder is a grave offence under Zimbabwean law and carries severe penalties upon conviction.

‎The matter remains before the court, while investigations continue and efforts are underway to apprehend the two suspects who are still at large.
