LILONGWE, Malawi – CAPS United arrived in the Malawian capital on Friday evening, launching a two-week pre-season camp aimed at fine-tuning preparations for the upcoming 2026 Premier Soccer League season.

The Green Machine touched down in Lilongwe with a full squad and technical team, immediately shifting focus to a series of high-profile friendly matches against top-flight opposition from the Malawi Premier Soccer League.

Silver Strikers First Test on Sunday

The Harare giants will open their Malawian campaign this Sunday against Silver Strikers at Silver Stadium, in what promises to be a stern examination of their off-season preparations. The fixture has generated significant local interest, with Malawian football fans eager to see the Zimbabwean powerhouse in action.

CAPS United coach Takesure Chiragwi expressed surprise at the attention the match has attracted but welcomed the opportunity to test his squad under competitive conditions.

“We are quite surprised with the amount of interest this match has brought across Lilongwe,” Chiragwi told Zim GBC News from Malawi.

“Maybe it’s because our team has Malawian players as well as technical personnel. But all the same, we want to win the match and assess our level of preparedness.”

The Green Machine boasts strong connections to Malawian football, with several players and members of the technical bench hailing from the country, adding an extra dimension to the friendly encounters.

Full Friendly Programme Confirmed

Beyond Sunday’s clash with Silver Strikers, CAPS United has lined up two additional friendly matches against undisclosed Malawian Premier League opposition. The technical team intends to use the full complement of fixtures to evaluate squad depth and tactical systems ahead of the domestic season opener.

Chiragwi indicated the camp represents a crucial phase in the team’s preparation cycle.

“This is exactly the kind of preparation we needed,” he said. “Different opposition, different conditions, and competitive matches that replicate the intensity of league football. We’re taking this very seriously.”

Mozambique Encounter Before Return

Following the conclusion of their Malawian fixtures, CAPS United will not return directly to Zimbabwe. The Green Machine has arranged an additional friendly against UD Songo of Mozambique, extending their regional exposure before heading home.

The match against the Mozambican side will provide further variety in opposition and allow Chiragwi to assess his squad against different playing styles prevalent in Southern African football.

Pre-Season Objectives

CAPS United has been rebuilding ahead of the 2026 campaign, with Chiragwi implementing his tactical philosophy since taking the reins. The Malawian tour represents the culmination of weeks of local training, with the friendlies offering the first real gauge of progress.

The technical department is particularly focused on match fitness, tactical cohesion, and integration of new signings. Sources within the camp indicate Chiragwi has been working intensively on defensive organisation and transitional play during training sessions in Harare before departure.

Local Interest High

The presence of CAPS United in Lilongwe has captured the imagination of Malawian football followers. Sunday’s match against Silver Strikers is expected to draw a substantial crowd, with local media dedicating significant coverage to the visit of the Zimbabwean giants.

Silver Strikers, one of Malawi’s most prominent clubs, will provide robust opposition. The fixture offers both teams valuable competitive minutes as they build toward their respective domestic campaigns.

PSL Countdown Begins

With the 2026 Premier Soccer League season drawing nearer, CAPS United’s management is leaving nothing to chance. The Malawian tour represents a significant investment in pre-season preparation, underlining the club’s ambition for the upcoming campaign.

The Green Machine will be seeking to improve upon their recent league performances and mount a sustained challenge at the upper end of the table. Chiragwi’s men will return from their regional tour with approximately two weeks remaining before the PSL kick-off, allowing time for final adjustments based on lessons learned in Malawi and Mozambique.

Fans Await Updates

Back home, CAPS United supporters are eagerly following the team’s progress through social media updates and club communications. The friendly against Silver Strikers on Sunday will provide the first glimpse of the 2026 squad in competitive action.

The club has promised regular updates from camp, with match reports and analysis to follow each fixture as the Green Machine continues its countdown to the new season.
