When one speaks of Women Football in Zimbabwe the Southern Region Division One Womens Soccer League team, the Bulawayo Chiefs’ Queens or simply AMAKHOSIKAZI are the team to talk about.
Amakhosikazi are showing everybody that royalty runs in their veins.
The Bulawayo Chiefs women’s football version, Amakhosikazi have already secured the league’s top spot with staggering points and goal advantage by making scoring seem so easy.
This past Saturday, the Queens defeated seasoned Highlanders Royals 14 goals to 1.
“I would like to give credit to the girls for playing good football, we created a lot of chances and of course missed more than we scored but that element of creating chances and playing fantastic football is a good job for the team. I feel humbled by the team’s spirit.” Said Amakhosikazi coach Evans Netha.
The team’s goal scorers include Patience Ndlovu on 20 goals, Lauryn Mupasi with 18, Nomqhele Donga with 13, Nothabo Nkabinde 12, Thando Sibanda 10 and two defenders Mlalazi and Majika on 9 and 6 respectively.
“We work hard at training and half of our practices is on shooting, supporters want to see goals. Football is all about scoring , and at Chiefs we don’t rely on one person it’s a shared responsibility.” He added.
The Queens have scored 118 goals altogether and having done so, dominating the female league. The conquerors have their sight set on slaying Herentals Ladies team in a curtain raiser match of the Chibuku Super Cup final at Barbourfields Stadiums (BF) on 20 November.
When asked how Amakhosikazi camp feels about the upcoming match against Herentals Ladies, Netha said,
“Everyone is looking forward to that game, it’s a good exposure for the girls for what we will come across at the premier league”
The Chibuku Super Cup finale is between the male sides of both teams who will be playing in the final which promises fireworks and spectacular displays for the spectators to marvel at. Amakhosi Amahle will face off the Students after both teams won on penalties to make it to the finals. Herentals knocked out the Cup holders FC Platinum 4-3 on penalties after they drew 1-1, meanwhile Bulawayo Chiefs won 5- 4 agaisnt Black Rhinos to book their spot at the finals.
The Ninjas are the favorites to win but who knows, the students might teach the Sensei a lesson.
