‎The Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare has expressed profound shock and sorrow over the death of a six-year-old girl who was reportedly beaten to death after failing to spell her name. The incident has sparked nationwide concern over child protection and parenting practices.

‎In a statement, the Ministry condemned the use of physical punishment, stating that no circumstance can ever justify violence against children.

‎“This heartbreaking case is a stark reminder that children deserve love, patience and protection, not punishment that endangers their lives,” the statement read.

‎The Ministry called on parents, guardians, and caregivers to adopt positive parenting practices, emphasizing that children flourish in environments filled with guidance, encouragement, and respect.

‎Families are urged to use non-violent methods of teaching and seek support when needed to ensure children grow with dignity, confidence, and love.

‎Safeguarding children, the Ministry stressed, is a collective responsibility. Members of the community are encouraged to report incidents of abuse immediately to the nearest police station or social welfare office.

‎“Silence only enables abuse, speaking out saves lives,” the statement noted.

‎The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to advancing child rights and protection, strengthening advocacy, and reinforcing support systems to prevent similar tragedies.

‎“No amount of force or abuse can alter the natural abilities of a child; only encouragement and support can nurture their full potential,” the statement said.

‎This tragic case has reignited discussions about child welfare in Zimbabwe, highlighting the urgent need for awareness campaigns, parental guidance programs, and community involvement to protect children from violence and abuse.
