Sungura Godfather, Nicholas “Senior lecturer” Zakaria and the Khiama Boys will be playing their new album “Musabvunda” for the first time in Bulawayo on the 12th of November 2022 at Kelvin Tshisanyama.
Zakaria released the album in April 2022 and it was a double celebration for him as he simultaneously launched his 29th album while celebrating his 66th birthday.
It was however, disappointing to note that very few musicians attended the event to support their colleague and mentor. Over the past years, Zakaria’s albums have not risen to the level which he has been renowned for, these include “Zadziso” in 2020, “Takakomborerwa” released in 2017 and “Inzwa Unzwe” in 2019. Musabvunda has created anxiety on whether or not the new album would be able to see Zakaria rediscovering his old self.
“What made us want to invite Zakaria is because most sungura enthusiasts have been approaching me, asking when I am bringing Zakaria to Bulawayo. As King of Kings Entertainment, we realised that Bulawayo has got many Sungura fans and because of the new album, fans insist on seeing it being performed live on stage,” said Assan Mandizvidza Mugumbute, King of Kings entertainment manager.
“We chose Kelvin Tshisa Nyama because its a new venue where people flock to on weekends, to enjoy braii and drinks.”
