As major rainstorm swept across the region, causing slick roads and slower commutes, a public safety notice, explicitly titled “IMPORTANT TIPS FOR DRIVING IN THE RAIN,” has been issued by the Emergency help group, providing direct guidance to motorists for operating vehicles under wet weather conditions.

The notice first advises drivers to allocate additional time for travel to accommodate potential heavy traffic. It further mandates the use of headlights during rainfall.

A section dedicated to vehicle preparedness states that tire pressure must be checked. It specifies that over-inflated tires reduce grip, while under-inflated tires may result in serious aquaplaning.

The directive also requires that windshield wipers be in proper working order and should be replaced if necessary prior to driving in rainy conditions.

“Drivers should also ensure that they do not drink and drive especially during the rainy season and avoid driving and texting” Emergency help group.

Regarding operational conduct, the notice stipulates that a safe following distance must be maintained between vehicles. It instructs motorists to drive at or below the posted speed limit, noting that roads become extra slippery and dangerous. A specific speed limit of 60 is indicated within the advisory.

With more rainy days in the forecast, authorities are echoing the tips. The public notice recommends a full pre-season check of wipers, tires, and reminds drivers that the posted speed limit is for ideal conditions.
