The National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) has officially unveiled its 2026 National Athletics Calendar, outlining an ambitious and structured programme aimed at strengthening athlete development, enhancing transparency in selection, and deepening Zimbabwe’s integration into the global athletics arena.

‎The calendar highlights Zimbabwe’s participation in major international competitions, including the World Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland, the Florida Relays in the United States, and the World Relays in Gaborone, Botswana.

‎ These engagements underscore the country’s commitment to exposing its athletes to elite competition while benchmarking performance against international standards.

‎According to NAAZ, the 2026 calendar positions Zimbabwe not only as a participant, but as an active contributor to the global athletics ecosystem.

‎The programme reflects a clear pathway from grassroots to elite competition, reinforcing long-term athlete development and sustainable excellence.

‎A key pillar of the calendar is a three-stage junior and youth development and selection framework, aligned with World Athletics best practice.

‎The process begins with the Junior Championships in March 2026, followed by the National Junior Championships in April, before concluding with final junior and interprovincial selections later in April.

‎This phased approach ensures performance-based selection, consistency, and fairness.
‎Beyond competition, the calendar emphasizes broader developmental themes, including community involvement, regional integration, and holistic athlete development.

‎NAAZ has placed particular focus on nurturing young talent while promoting discipline, education, and athlete welfare alongside performance.

‎The inclusion of regional events, especially within Africa, reflects Zimbabwe’s commitment to strengthening continental athletics and fostering cooperation with neighbouring nations.

‎Participation in the World Relays in Botswana also highlights the importance of regional platforms in preparing athletes for global competition.

‎Backed by NAAZ’s guiding values of Passion, Progress, and Pride, the 2026 athletics calendar sends a clear message of ambition and unity.

As Zimbabwe prepares for a demanding year on the track and field, the association believes the structured calendar will provide athletes with clarity, opportunity, and the platform to compete confidently on the world stage.

‎With 2026 framed as a year of renewed purpose, NAAZ says the focus remains firmly on building a resilient athletics system capable of producing competitive athletes and sustaining national pride at international level.
