Guruve — A 33-year-old man from Guruve, Anymore Zvitsva, believed to be behind a number of brutal murders and sexual assaults across Mashonaland Central, has been formally charged with 12 serious criminal offences following his dramatic arrest on 3 January 2026.
Appearing before the Harare Regional Magistrates’ Court, Zvitsva faces eight counts of murder, two counts of rape, and two counts of attempted murder.
Due to his health condition at the time of arrest, he was remanded in hospital custody and is set to return to court on January 19, 2026.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the alleged offences are from April 2024 to December 2025 and were committed in Guruve, Nyakapupu, Mvurwi, Muzura Farm, and surrounding rural areas.
Zvitsva reportedly targeted remote homesteads in violent night-time invasions, using weapons such as machetes, knives, poison, iron rods, spears and snare wire.
The charges include rape incidents committed in front of minors, and one where a woman was allegedly assaulted while restrained on a mountain. Victims were reportedly strangled, stabbed, or buried in isolated locations.
In one attempted murder, a shopkeeper was left unconscious after being attacked during a robbery. Zvitsva was advised to seek bail at the High Court due to the gravity of the charges.
The NPAZ reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice for victims and ensuring public safety, vowing to handle the case with the utmost seriousness.
“Matters of this gravity will be pursued with firmness to ensure justice for victims and the safety of the public”.
