BULAWAYO – Police in Bulawayo have confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old man in connection with a series of violent armed robberies that terrorised residents in the Luveve and Cowdry Park suburbs.

Themba Ncube of Magwegwe North was apprehended following a police chase in the early hours of December 23. He is linked to multiple incidents where criminals broke into homes at night while residents slept.

According to a police statement, Ncube and his accomplices—identified as Joseph Phiri (38) and Oscar Ndlovu, who remain at large—used iron bars to force doors open and were armed with knives and a pistol. Once inside, they assaulted occupants, threatened to kill them, and demanded cash and valuables. The gang is alleged to have robbed four houses, making off with cellphones and cash amounting to US$920.

“Police got information that the accused persons were near Emakhandeni Secondary on December 23. Following the leads, the police spotted the accused persons and they fled.

The police gave a chase leading to the arrest of Themba Ncube who was interviewed and he admitted having committed the offences,” said Inspector Msebele Nomalanga, the Bulawayo Provincial Press and Public Relations Officer.

Inspector Nomalanga praised the public’s role in the arrest.

“We appreciate the members of the public for supplying information that led to the arrest of the accused person.”

She urged residents to enhance their home security.

“We also urge members of the public to make sure that they tighten their home securities by securing their doors and windows with strong locks and install burglar bars.”

A manhunt is ongoing for the two outstanding suspects. The police have appealed to anyone with information on the whereabouts of Joseph Phiri and Oscar Ndlovu to report to their nearest police station.
