HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has commenced his scheduled month-long annual vacation, the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) confirmed in a statement released on Monday.

The President’s leave began on December 23, 2025. He is expected to resume his official duties in early February 2026, having chosen to spend the holiday period within the country.

In line with constitutional provisions, the duties of the Head of State and Government will be carried out by the two Vice Presidents on a rotational basis during this period.

According to the detailed schedule, Vice President Dr. Kembo Mohadi is the first to step into the acting role, serving from December 23 to December 31, 2025. He will hand over to Vice President General (Retired) Dr. Constantino Chiwenga, who will act from January 1 to January 13, 2026.

Thereafter, VP Mohadi will return to the acting Presidency from January 14 until President Mnangagwa’s return to office.

In the official press statement, Deputy Chief Secretary for Presidential Communications, Mr. George Charamba, outlined the arrangements, stating,

“This is in line with the established practice and the relevant provisions of the Constitution to ensure continuity and stability in the governance of the Republic.”

Political analysts note that this planned rotation underscores the operational framework within the executive, ensuring no vacuum in leadership while the President is on leave.

The public and all arms of government have been informed of the temporary succession plan to facilitate a smooth administration during the holiday season.
