In a direct call for greater sexual‑health agency, the Sexual Rights Council (SRC) has urged women to learn how to correctly apply male condoms, stressing that personal verification is essential to protection.
“To be sure that you are protected women need to make sure the condom is put on right and has no holes or any faults,” said the SRC health officer during a recent awareness session. The council highlighted three practical reasons women should be familiar with the device:
- Immediate safety check – a woman can inspect the condom for tears, expiry dates and proper positioning, catching problems a partner might miss.
- Empowerment – knowing the mechanics reduces reliance on a partner’s skill and opens space for open dialogue about consent and protection.
- Shared responsibility – when a woman verifies the condom’s integrity, the method’s effectiveness rises, lowering the risk of unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.
The SRC’s message emphasizes that understanding how a male condom works is not about policing a partner but about safeguarding personal health.
By equipping women with this knowledge, the council aims to strengthen individual agency and improve overall public‑health outcomes.
