KWEKWE – A 30-year-old man, Shakemore Manyepa has been remanded in custody by the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court following shocking allegations of domestic violence involving the use of a harmful substance.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident occurred on the evening of 26 November 2025, when Manyepa allegedly returned home in an intoxicated state and began burning groceries he had purchased.

“His wife confronted him, leading to a heated altercation,” said the Authority.

The argument reportedly escalated and in a disturbing turn of events, Manyepa is alleged to have poured sulphuric acid on his wife’s face causing serious injuries.

He was arrested and appeared in court, where he was remanded in custody to 3 December 2025.

The NPA has strongly condemned the attack, using the case to highlight the dangers of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

They urged communities to seek peaceful and lawful means to resolve conflicts, warning of the long-term and devastating consequences of abuse.

The case has sparked outrage, with growing calls for stronger protection of women and stricter penalties for perpetrators of domestic violence.
