Microsoft is rolling out a useful update for Windows 11 that makes it easier to check your laptop’s battery at a glance, the taskbar now features a color-changing battery icon and gives you the option to see the exact percentage left.
The old, plain white icon is being replaced by one that uses intuitive colors for notifications for instance
green notify when your device is plugged in and charging.
Red notify as a clear visual warning that your battery is running critically low.
This addresses a common need for a quicker, clearer way to check power status without having to dig into settings.
In addition to the new colors, you can now choose to display the battery percentage directly on the icon. This is a feature many users have specifically requested for better planning.
As one Windows user, shared, “Seeing the percentage helps me make informed decisions about when to charge my laptop… This feature makes my life a little easier.”
This update is part of Microsoft’s ongoing effort to refine Windows 11 based on what users want. It shows how small, thoughtful changes can make a daily difference.
As Windows Chief Product Officer noted, “The colorful battery indicator is a small but important step in creating a more intuitive experience.”
However, this update proves that even minor tweaks can significantly improve how you interact with your computer throughout the day.
