Armed CID Officers Await Magaya at Prison Gates for Re-Arrest Amid New Rape Allegation

Zim GBC News | Crimes and Courts

HARARE – In a dramatic turn of events, just hours after being granted bail by the High Court, Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries leader Walter Magaya is facing an imminent re-arrest.

According to high-level intelligence sources, a contingent of twelve heavily armed officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) awaits for the cleric at Harare Remand Prison, upon his release.

This development follows a new, serious allegation that has come to light. A source within the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) confirmed to Zim GBC News that a serving police officer has formally accused Magaya of raping his daughter.

This new charge has significantly escalated the legal and political tensions surrounding the case.

A senior CIO officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated,

“There is a coordinated effort to ensure he does not sleep a free man tonight. The new evidence is compelling, and he will be taken back into custody to answer to this fresh charge.”

This move signals a potential rift within the state’s handling of the high-profile case, with elements of the security apparatus appearing to move decisively against the cleric despite the court’s bail ruling. The situation creates a complex standoff between the judiciary’s decision and the police’s mandate to investigate new, serious crimes.

A Figure of Contrasts: Magaya’s Legacy of Philanthropy Amidst Deepening Legal Woes

The impending re-arrest stands in stark contrast to the narrative of philanthropy that has long surrounded Walter Magaya. In response to his initial arrest, a wave of support from his followers and beneficiaries has highlighted his extensive contributions to Zimbabwean society.

A statement from the PHD Ministries social media channels, which has been widely circulated, catalogued over a decade of Magaya’s investments and charitable works, including:

· Sports Development: An investment of over US$25 million, including the construction of The Heart Stadium in Harare, the renovation of Rimuka Stadium in Kadoma, and crucial financial interventions for the Zimbabwe national soccer teams, saving the sport’s governing body from a FIFA ban.

· Healthcare and Education: Major donations of critical medical equipment to public hospitals like Parirenyatwa and Chitungwiza, payment of medical bills for individuals requiring treatment abroad, and covering school fees for thousands of underprivileged children.

· Community Support: Large-scale disaster relief following Cyclone Idai, regular distribution of food hampers, drilling of boreholes for clean water, and empowerment projects donating income-generating equipment to communities.

These contributions present a complex portrait of a man who is simultaneously celebrated as a national benefactor and now faces grave criminal allegations.

As of the time of publishing, Walter Magaya remains in custody. The nation now watches to see if the prison gates will open to his freedom, or to a new set of handcuffs.
