LIMPOPO, South Africa – A 40-year-old Zimbabwean man is believed to have taken his own life after allegedly strangling his 50-year-old South African partner during a domestic dispute, in a tragic incident that has shocked the Maunandzhele Village community.

The significantly decomposed bodies of the couple were discovered last Wednesday, November 5, inside a one-room house where they lived. Family members had last seen the couple alive on Saturday, November 1, around 6 PM.

Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba confirmed the grim details.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased woman, aged 50, was in a relationship with the deceased man, a 40-year-old Zimbabwean national,” Mashaba stated.

“It is suspected that the male assaulted and strangled the female before taking his own life.”

The acting police commissioner for Limpopo, Major-General Jan Scheepers, expressed deep concern over the rising incidents of domestic violence and intimate partner killings in the region.

“This tragic event highlights the serious consequences of domestic abuse,” Major-General Scheepers said.

“We encourage anyone facing such situations to seek help before it’s too late.”

Police have opened an inquest docket and continue investigations to uncover further details surrounding the circumstances that led to the double tragedy.

The incident has cast a pall over the small village and serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence.
