GWERU – A 21-year-old man from Mkoba suburb has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sodomising a 13-year-old boy in a case that has drawn strong condemnation from authorities.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) confirmed that the offence occurred on October 28, 2025, after the perpetrator befriended the minor at a local tuckshop and lured him to a secluded area.
“While on the way in a secluded area, the offender removed his trousers and started touching the victim inappropriately,” the NPAZ said in a statement.
“Despite the victim’s clear refusal and discomfort, the offender proceeded to forcibly undress the victim and engaged in anal penetration.”
The court heard that the teenager managed to escape and immediately reported the assault to his aunt, leading to the arrest and subsequent prosecution of the offender.
In a strong warning to potential offenders, the prosecuting authority declared:
“Paedophiles have no place in our community! The NPAZ urges all members of the society to take swift action in reporting cases of sexual abuse.”
The 15-year sentence has been welcomed by child rights advocates who emphasize the importance of harsh penalties for crimes against minors.
