BEIT BRIDGE – In a remarkable display of faith and endurance, a South African pilgrim, identified only as Coetzee, has captured public attention as he continues his extraordinary walk from Cape Town to Israel, pulling a wheeled wooden cross.
Coetzee successfully crossed into Zimbabwe through the bustling Beit Bridge border post this week, marking a significant milestone in his transcontinental spiritual journey which began in March 2025.
The sight of the lone man, dedicatedly pulling his large cross along the roadside, has drawn a mixture of admiration, curiosity, and blessings from onlookers and motorists.
In an exclusive interview Coetzee explained that his mission is to spread the Word of God across Africa and beyond.
“This walk is not for my glory, but for His,” Coetzee stated, pausing briefly on the roadside.
“I feel called to carry this cross as a symbol of faith, hope, and redemption. The welcome I have received since entering Zimbabwe has been deeply moving, and I pray that my journey touches the hearts of everyone I meet.”
Officials at the Beit Bridge border post confirmed his entry, noting that his unique mode of travel and clear purpose made for a memorable processing experience.
“We processed the gentleman according to all immigration protocols,” said a border control officer who preferred to remain anonymous.
“It’s not every day you see someone walking through with a full-sized cross. We wish him a safe and blessed passage through our country.”
Coetzee’s plan is to traverse the length of Zimbabwe before moving northwards through the rest of Africa, eventually aiming to reach Israel. His journey underscores a profound personal commitment, facing the challenges of weather, terrain, and distance.
As he continues his pilgrimage north, his passage serves as a powerful visual testament of faith, sparking conversations and inspiration along Zimbabwe’s highways.
