JOHANNESBURG – Zimbabwe international goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze has emerged as a major financial winner from the Carling Knockout Cup, amassing a staggering R700,000 in performance bonuses, despite his club Magesi FC being eliminated from the tournament.

The seasoned shot-stopper earned R600,000 from multiple man-of-the-match awards throughout the competition and added a further R100,000 for his heroic display in Magesi’s narrow 1-2 defeat to Orlando Pirates in the quarter-finals on Tuesday night.

Chipezeze was in imperious form against the Buccaneers, pulling off a series of stunning saves that kept the underdogs in contention until the final whistle. He notably denied Yanela Mbuthuma from point-blank range in a moment that highlighted his exceptional reflexes and composure under pressure.

Taking to social media to express his gratitude, the Zimbabwean international wrote,

“Thank you again for the love and support you guys have shown me throughout the competition. Your constant support and encouragement really pushed us to do better. Enjoy the rest of the competition and see you soon.”

The goalkeeper’s club form will be a welcome boost for the Zimbabwe national team, the Warriors. Chipezeze has been a consistent fixture in the national set-up for years, earning numerous caps and featuring prominently in AFCON qualifying campaigns. His experience between the posts has been vital for Zimbabwe, most notably his key role in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Despite Shepang Moremi’s sensational long-range goal sealing the victory for Pirates, the night belonged to Chipezeze, whose performance was described by pundits as a goalkeeping masterclass.

His efforts have not only lined his pockets but have also cemented his reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s most reliable and talented football exports.
