By Ashley Dean Misho | Arts and Entertainment Reporter

Tsepo OkaMaseko, a 27-year-old Afro-fusion musician from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, is making a name for himself in the country’s music scene.

Born and raised in this vibrant city, OkaMaseko discovered his passion for music at a young age, singing in his church choir at just 10 years old.

As he grew older, his passion only intensified, leading him to pursue a career in music at 16.

OkaMaseko’s hard work paid off when he won an award in a competition organized by CITE, followed by a third-place finish in the Voice2Rep competition in Harare in 2022. Since then, he’s been actively producing and releasing Afro-fusion music that resonates with his fans.

His music tackles meaningful themes, from spiritual growth in “Emafin” to personal struggles in “Insuku”. He also uses his platform to shine a light on important issues, such as the abuse of young girls in “Inyembezi”.

OkaMaseko’s soulful sounds are a testament to his talent and dedication, cementing his place as a rising star in Zimbabwe’s music scene.

With hits like “Malibongwe”, an Amapiano Gospel single, OkaMaseko is sure to continue making an impact.

However, OkaMaseko’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges.

“Zimbabweans seem to have lost interest in supporting local artists, which can be disheartening for musicians who pour their hearts into their craft,” he says.

“This lack of support stifles the growth of the music industry and deprives the nation of a potential source of pride and cultural identity.”

OkaMaseko believes that with more support and enthusiasm, local artists can be given the platform they deserve to shine and showcase Zimbabwe’s unique sound to the world.

“I believe that with more support and enthusiasm, local artists can be given the platform they deserve to shine and showcase Zimbabwe’s unique sound to the world,” he says.

Despite these challenges, OkaMaseko remains optimistic and committed to his craft, inspiring fans and fellow musicians alike with his music and message.
