HARARE – A 16-year-old boy from Harare’s Mabelreign suburb has been arrested for allegedly attacking his family’s housemaid with an electric shocker before stabbing her multiple times in the neck after she confronted him over stolen money.
The brutal incident occurred on October 12, 2025, at Zambezi Flats. According to police, the Form Four student attacked the 28-year-old maid after she accused him of stealing US$100 from her room.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the details in an official statement.
“The ZRP confirms that the incident occurred on 12 October 2025 at Zambezi Flats, Mabelreign, Harare,” said Comm Nyathi.
“Investigations by the police have established that the learner (16) attacked the maid with an electric shocker before stabbing her with a kitchen knife multiple times on the neck.”
The suspect was found hiding behind a curtain in the same flat after detectives noticed movement. A neighbor who witnessed the arrest described the scene:
“He was cuffed on the spot, his hands still dripping with what appeared to be the maid’s blood.”
Contrary to social media speculation about the maid’s death, police confirmed she survived the attack and is currently recovering from her injuries.
The case has shocked local residents, with one elderly tenant expressing disbelief:
“We thought the boy was one of the quiet ones. Who knew he could turn into a monster over a few dollars?”
The suspect has been remanded in custody as investigations continue.
