If you are a gin enthusiast and you are wondering where you should be on the 29th of October, Comrades beverages has got you covered.

Comrades are bringing back the 2nd edition of your favourite Matobo Gin festival, which had disappeared due to the Covid lockdowns.

The festival will be held at Sand spruit dam inside the national park.

The Matobo Gin Festival was founded by Comrades Beverages which is a Gin, Vodka, and Craft Beer manufacturer located in the City of Bulawayo. They are a small batch distillery committed to crafting the ultimate beverage experience.

“What inspired us to start the festival is, we realised there was no gin festival in the southern region and many people are gin enthusiasts. We thought it would be great to have a gin festival”, said the organiser, Andile Mthongana

The festival is also meant to raise funds for animal conservation in Matobo as comrades beverages work closely with Zimbabwe National Parks (ZimParks). It will also be an eye opener to people to know Matobo as a tourist destination.

Gin is a distilled alcoholic drink that derives its flavour from juniper berries. Gin originated as a medicinal liqour made by monks and alchemists across Europe, particularly in southern Italy, Flanders and the Netherlands, to provide aqua vita from distillates of grapes and grains.

” We are having different craft gins at the festival. We will have gins from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Swaziland therefore mixologists will be crafting cocktails from the different gins. Other activities will include canoeing games live painting and lots of entertainment from artists “, added Mthongana.

Did you know?, The late, Queen Elizabeth the second was famously known for drinking gin cocktail everyday before she ate lunch.
