The Zimbabwe Meteorological Services has released its weekly forecast, indicating a significant rise in temperatures across most of the country, culminating in a heatwave by the end of the week.
However, a stark contrast is expected in the Eastern Highlands, which will experience unseasonably cool and wet weather.
According to the Major Cities Forecast for Monday, 20th to Friday, 24th October 2025, a clear warming trend is set to take hold. While Monday starts with moderate temperatures for most regions, a steady climb will see many areas experiencing highs in the mid to upper 30s Celsius by Friday.
Lupane is forecast to be the nation’s hotspot, reaching a scorching 40°C on Friday. Kadoma and Kwekwe are also bracing for intense heat, with predicted highs of 39°C. Even typically milder areas like Gwanda and Masvingo will see temperatures soar to 39°C and 33°C, respectively, by the week’s end.
In contrast to the building heat, the holiday resorts of the Eastern Highlands will provide a cool retreat. Mutare will maintain a consistently cool 16°C high throughout the week, while Vumba will be even colder, with maximum temperatures struggling to reach 17°C by Friday. These areas, including Nyanga and Chimanimani, are also forecast to receive the highest rainfall in the country, with Mutare expecting 2.4mm of rain on Wednesday.
Rainfall in the major cities will be sporadic and generally light. Most urban centers, including Harare, Bulawayo, and Gweru, will see isolated, light showers mid-week, primarily on Tuesday and Wednesday, before conditions clear up and temperatures jump. The highest rainfall accumulation for a city is predicted for Lupane, with 1.8mm on Wednesday.
The Holiday Resorts forecast presents a tale of two climates. While the eastern resorts will be cool and damp, western and northern destinations like Kariba, Binga, and Hwange National Park will be hot and largely dry, with temperatures hovering in the mid-30s—ideal for visitors seeking warm weather.
Authorities are urging the public to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, and look out for the vulnerable as the heatwave intensifies. The government’s “Whole of Government Approach” banner on the forecast suggests a coordinated effort to disseminate this critical weather information to all citizens.
