In a blistering and extensive social media post, Independent Member of Parliament for Norton, Temba Mliswa, has called for a decisive purge of “moles and fence-sitters” within the ZANU PF government, specifically targeting Presidential Spokesperson George Charamba and the wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.
The post, titled “Sabhuku’s Eye: Moles, Putschist Fence-Sitters and ED’s Need to Go Bold,” positions Mliswa as a staunch defender of President Emmerson Mnangagwa while launching a fierce critique against VP Chiwenga’s alleged ambitions.
A Tale of Two Successions: Patience vs. Impatience
Mliswa framed his argument around a historical parallel, recalling how President Mnangagwa was bypassed for the Vice Presidency in 2004 in favour of Joice Mujuru.
“What is striking in that chain of events is how ED nursed his disappointment and pain and still worked dutifully and faithfully until his turn finally came,” Mliswa wrote, praising the President’s “patience and humbleness” as a “feat for study.”
He contrasted this with what he termed VP Chiwenga’s “reckless” and “dangerous” impatience, alleging a coordinated effort to usurp President Mnangagwa, particularly after the party’s Resolution Number 1 in Bulawayo, which effectively endorsed Mnangagwa as the party’s sole candidate.
“It has been clear to all and sundry that there were ongoing efforts to usurp ED… Only those advancing the putschist agenda and the stoically stupid would try to argue that the Presidium has been in unison,” Mliswa stated.
Call for a Purge and Specific Targets
The MP claimed that “multiple intelligence leaks have betrayed the presence of sellouts,” increasing pressure on the President to act.
“There are too many flip-floppers such that ED should simply get his own people into Government and chuck sellouts out!” he urged.
He specifically named Presidential Spokesperson George Charamba, stating he had “emerged from this scandal with a very tainted name.”
Furthermore, Mliswa called for the removal of VP Chiwenga’s wife, Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi, from the military.
“How does the wife of the VP continue going to work when she has become a politically exposed person?” he questioned.
“In a rigid environment such as the military who can oversee the VP’s wife with professional detachment? No one!”
Mliswa also revealed personal costs for his allegiance, claiming,
“I had a homestead burnt down for simply siding with the President while multiple leaks revealed moles inside the system.”
Chiwenga’s Depleted Capital and a New Leadership Era
Mliswa argued that VP Chiwenga’s strategy had backfired, costing him his political capital within ZANU PF.
“As things stand he has essentially brought the party into disrepute and whatever political capital he possessed especially within it, he has lost it,” he wrote, adding that the VP had mistakenly focused on grandstanding to “social media, mainly opposition people in the diaspora” instead of building internal party support.
Looking forward, Mliswa suggested it was time for a generational shift in leadership, moving beyond liberation war credentials.
“Four decades after independence it’s reasonable if there is a persuasion to change the guard and have a breed of leaders who never took part in the liberation war,” he stated, pointing to businessman Kuda Tagwirei as an example of a “different skill set” needed for modern governance.
Final Warning
Mliswa concluded with a final call to action for President Mnangagwa:
“As for the President, many have shown their colours and inability to do the principled thing, and should simply be allowed or made to walk!”
