HARARE – Former Dynamos captain Murape Murape has been served with a legal demand to retract what are described as “slanderous and defamatory” statements made against former Zimbabwe youth international Walter “Ringers” Musanhu.
The dispute originated in a WhatsApp group named “Former Footballers,” where Murape allegedly made a series of serious, unsubstantiated claims about Musanhu. These allegations quickly spread across social media platforms, prompting Musanhu to engage legal representation.
In a letter from James Majatame Attorneys at Law, seen by Zim GBC News, Murape is accused of making several false statements, including:
· Falsely claiming Musanhu had an inappropriate relationship with his sisters.
· Using the derogatory term “mainini” to insult him.
· Falsely asserting that Musanhu never played for Dynamos, the Young Warriors, or the Mighty Bulls.
· Accusing him of bribing journalists and having poor relationships within football circles.
The legal notice states, “These claims are completely false, malicious, and were calculated to injure our client’s reputation. Such conduct amounts to cyberbullying as defined by the Cyber and Data Protection Act.”
Musanhu, who is recognized for his contributions to youth development through his Jadel FA 2034 World Cup Project, has declined to comment directly, referring all inquiries to his lawyers. The project is noted for its work in steering young people away from drug abuse through sports.
The legal team has given Murape a five-day ultimatum to:
- Issue a full retraction in the same WhatsApp group.
- Publish a written apology in The Herald and The Sunday Mail for four consecutive weeks.
- Cease all further communication about or directed at Musanhu.
Failure to comply will result in a lawsuit for defamation and possible charges under the Cyber and Data Protection Act.
The letter concludes by expressing a preference for an amicable resolution, urging Murape to “act responsibly and retract the statements to avoid further legal escalation.”
