HARARE – The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has received a US$5 million allocation from the Treasury to settle part of the outstanding payments owed to farmers for delivered cereals.

In a statement issued this Wednesday, GMB Chief Executive Officer Edson Badarai confirmed the disbursement, stating it would help clear the arrears to grain producers.

“The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) is pleased to announce that it has received USD 5 million from Treasury to facilitate payments for cereals deliveries,” Badarai said.

He emphasized the critical impact the funding will have on the agricultural sector, noting,

“The funding will enable GMB to clear some of the outstanding payments owed to farmers, bringing positive impact on the agricultural sector, as farmers will be able to invest in their business.”

The GMB CEO also extended gratitude to the government for the financial intervention.

“The Board is also grateful to the Treasury for this financial support, and appreciates Hon. Minister Dr. A. J. Masuka’s support and facilitation on this front,” Badarai added.

Concluding the statement, he affirmed,

“GMB continues to honour the role of farmers and their resilience as the country gears for the summer season.”

The payment is expected to provide much-needed liquidity to farmers as they prepare for the crucial summer cropping season.
