The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has constituted an Ad Hoc Committee of Inquiry to investigate the controversial withdrawal of Sheasham Football Club from the Zimbabwe Central Region Soccer League (ZCRSL).
The decision was ratified during a meeting of the ZIFA Executive Committee in Harare on Thursday, following recommendations from the association’s Legal and Player Status Committee.
In a statement, ZIFA outlined the committee’s mandate, which is to “investigate the full circumstances surrounding Sheasham FC’s withdrawal” and determine if the club exhausted all proper channels and internal remedies available under ZIFA and ZCRSL statutes before its exit.
A ZIFA spokesperson confirmed the move, stating,
“The committee is expected to provide a comprehensive report to help the executive understand the sequence of events and ensure the integrity of our league structures is upheld.”
The committee, to be formed in line with Article 55 of the ZIFA Statutes, will comprise a legal practitioner as Chairperson, a sports administrator as Deputy Chairperson, and a former referee as the third member.
The probe will specifically:
· Investigate the circumstances leading to the club’s exit.
· Establish whether all internal remedies were exhausted.
· Assess the ZCRSL’s response to any formal complaints from the club.
The committee has been given a strict seven-working-day deadline to submit its findings and recommendations to the ZIFA Executive Committee.
The ZIFA Secretariat will facilitate the appointment of members and provide administrative support for the inquiry.
