CHITUNGWIZA – A 13-year-old girl from Chitungwiza was raped by two different men in separate incidents on the same night after she ran away from her aunt’s home to avoid punishment, police have confirmed.
The minor’s ordeal began after she was allegedly caught stealing her aunt’s perfume. Fearing disciplinary action, she fled the residence.
According to the police report, the girl returned home around 8 PM but found the dogs loose outside. Afraid to enter, she decided to find a place to sleep elsewhere. She then proceeded to Manyame Park.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed that an investigation is underway.
“Police are investigating a rape case involving a minor in Chitungwiza,” said Insp Chakanza.
“She was escorted to Chitungwiza Central Hospital for medical examination. The accused persons were not located.”
The investigation reveals that around 10 PM, the girl was approached by an unidentified man who dragged her into an abandoned house in Manyame Park and raped her. After the assailant fled, the traumatised victim made her way to Limbani Shops in Zengeza 5.
Tragically, while seated in that area, she was approached by two other men. One of them then pulled her into a nearby bush and raped her for a second time.
The girl spent the rest of the night at the shops before a woman found her the following morning at around 9 AM and helped her return to her aunt’s home, where the assaults were disclosed.
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators.
