When the senior editor of Zim GBC News was called at an accident scene where a man had threatened a female journalists from this publication hell broke lose.
The journalist had gone to cover an accident that just happened at a zebra crossing that controls traffic at Coghlan Primary school situated along Samuel Parirenyatwa Street and 12th Ave, Bulawayo.
The man who drives a tour truck from a company called Thuma Mina had attended an accident scene to tour away a car that had hit another on a zebra crossing.
While the editor was enquiring from the truck drive why he had threatened the female journalist, a young man who introduced himself as the owner of the accident demanded the credentials of all the journalists who were on the scene.
The editor showed him his Zimbabwe Media Accreditation card. Before he could explain that the other journalists were interns, the friends of the driver became mobbing the editor threatening him with harm. One of the young man, a student from Masiyephambili College extracted an electric taser from the vehicle.
Other student and friends mobbed the journalist taking photos and videos of the melee and the younger student from Masiyephambili College was busy pressing his taser towards the journalist threatening him.
The student was identified only as Kuda.
While the editor had come to protect the female journalists had life came under threats. The possibility that these female journalists could have been harmed by the truck driver and the students is there for all to see had the senior journalist not attending the scene. How safe are journalists male or female when they are carrying out their legally constituted duties?
