OUTSPOKEN politician Job Sikhala has accused the police of a lack of progress in the investigation into the August bombing of his house, claiming he provided them with prior warnings from unknown callers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sikhala\u2019s residence was targeted on August 30 while he was in South Africa for the launch of his autobiography. Expressing his frustration, the former Zengeza West legislator revealed that he had received explicit threats a month before the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere were some very interesting developments that occurred before the attack on me,\u201d Sikhala stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI received messages in July warning me of a plot by a certain section of the national security service against me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He detailed his cooperation with the authorities, saying,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen police officers from CID Law and Order visited me last month, I showed them all those messages, including the phone numbers and the date and time they were sent, which warned me of an impending attack. They promised to inform me of who was responsible, but so far, there has been no public statement on the issue.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to inquiries from Zim GBC News, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said investigations were still ongoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe will divulge the outcome of the investigations at the right time. We don\u2019t do investigations via the private media,\u201d Commissioner Nyathi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe follow channels and when there is a need to update the public, we will do so accordingly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With police updates forthcoming, Sikhala announced he has taken matters into his own hands by hiring private investigators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI reassure the people of Zimbabwe that the truth shall come out,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe private investigators are on it. We are still in the process and when we receive the report, we will decide whether to make those findings public or not.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident follows Sikhala’s release from prison last year after nearly 600 days in pre-trial detention. He had been accused of inciting public violence following the murder of activist Moreblessing Ali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
