Authorities have also enhanced surveillance, with veterinary officers conducting regular inspections and testing to detect any signs of the disease.

Dr. Mwaramba detailed the vaccination progress:

“As of close of business on 29 September we had vaccinated 42,944 animals and we expect to have another round after 28 days.”

The comprehensive vaccination campaign targets cattle, goats, and pigs in affected areas, while public awareness campaigns educate farmers on FMD control and prevention measures.

Common symptoms of FMD include fluid-filled blisters on feet, mouth, tongue and lips; lameness; excessive salivation; decreased appetite; and fever.

The disease can lead to reduced productivity, weight loss, and secondary infections when blisters rupture.

Stay connected with us for the latest news:
· X (Twitter): @ZimGbc
·Instagram: @ZimGBCNews
·TikTok: @ZimGBCNews_01
·Facebook: Zim GBC News
·YouTube: Zim GBC News

Get real-time alerts on WhatsApp:
+263 773 820 323

Zim GBC News | Global News From An African Perspective©2025

Zim GBC News | Mat South Correspondent BEITBRIDGE – The Department of Veterinary Services has intensified efforts to contain a Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak in Beitbridge District, where 42,944 animals…

[6

post-9731","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-local-news
["GET
