The Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe has issued a weather advisory warning citizens of a significant rise in temperatures and an increased risk of veld fires across the country, starting Thursday and peaking over the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the latest forecasts, a hot and dry air mass is set to dominate the weather pattern, with temperatures expected to soar into the mid-to-high 30s Celsius in many areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
National Overview: Sunny, Hot, and Hazardous<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The forecast for Thursday, September 25, shows a divided start. Matabeleland South, Masvingo, and Manicaland provinces can expect a cloudy, windy, and cool morning with a chance of light drizzle in eastern districts like Chipinge and Chimanimani. However, these conditions will give way to partly cloudy and warm afternoons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In contrast, Harare, Bulawayo, Matabeleland North, and all Mashonaland provinces will experience mild, cloudless mornings that will quickly turn “sunny and hot” in the afternoon. The public is advised to limit sun exposure and avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak daylight hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The heat intensifies on Friday, September 26, with clear skies and mild mornings expected countrywide, leading to “mostly sunny and hot” conditions in the afternoon. Authorities are emphasizing the importance of staying hydrated and wearing sun protection, especially for farmers beginning land preparations for the summer cropping season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Weekend City-by-City Forecast<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A detailed look at the major cities’ forecasts from Thursday to Sunday reveals the escalating temperatures:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00b7 Bindura is forecast to see a dramatic jump to 33\u00b0C on Sunday, accompanied by a notable 1.2 mm of rainfall.
\u00b7 Bulawayo will experience a steady climb from 21\u00b0C on Thursday to a warm 27\u00b0C by Sunday.
\u00b7 Harare will see temperatures rise from 22\u00b0C on Thursday to 27\u00b0C over the weekend.
\u00b7 Masvingo and Mutare will have relatively milder but still warm conditions, peaking at 24\u00b0C and 23\u00b0C respectively on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Critical Fire Danger Warning<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the forecasted hot and windy conditions, the MSD has raised the fire danger alert to “High \u2013 Be ready to act.” The public is urged to exercise extreme caution to prevent veld fires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Key safety instructions include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00b7 DO NOT light fires in the open, especially on hot or windy days.
\u00b7 Never leave a fire unattended.
\u00b7 Construct fireguards that are at least 9 meters wide and free from debris around properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The public is reminded that a Whole of Government Approach is being implemented to manage the risks associated with this weather pattern. Citizens are encouraged to stay updated with official forecasts and adhere to all safety guidelines to protect lives, property, and the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
