BULAWAYO \u2013 The Goat Breeders Association of Zimbabwe (GBAZ) will host its annual Goat Indaba and Training Courses from October 23 to 26 in Bulawayo, with a sharp focus on safeguarding the prized Matebele and Mashona goat breeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event, running under the theme \u201cPreserving our Indigenous Goats\u2014Understanding the Matebele & Mashona Breed Standards,\u201d is set to bring together farmers, breeders, agricultural experts, policymakers, and livestock enthusiasts from across Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement, GBAZ Chairperson Mr. Sifiso Agbetorwoka emphasized the vital role of indigenous goats in the nation\u2019s agricultural framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur indigenous goat breeds, the Matebele and Mashona, are a cornerstone of our agricultural heritage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey are uniquely adapted to our climate, resistant to many common diseases, and require minimal inputs, making them ideal for smallholder farmers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The four-day program will include technical and practical training sessions, panel discussions, breed showcases, and a market and auction platform. A key highlight will be the \u201cCatch Them Young Mentorship\u201d programme, designed to introduce youth to goat farming as a sustainable venture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe want to inspire the next generation of farmers,\u201d Mr. Agbetorwoka added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGoat farming offers real opportunities for entrepreneurship and food security.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The indaba will also provide networking opportunities for participants to share strategies and form partnerships aimed at promoting sustainable goat production. The event is open to both GBAZ members and non-members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
