BULAWAYO – In a significant push for public health and animal welfare, residents of Cowdray Park turned out in large numbers today for a community dog vaccination campaign held in the TM area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initiative, aimed at protecting pets against deadly diseases like rabies, highlighted the community’s commitment to responsible pet ownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Organized by local veterinary services in collaboration with the Bulawayo City Council\u2019s animal control and health departments, the drive provided free vaccinations and advice to pet owners in one of the City’s\u2019s high-density suburbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We want our dogs to be safe and healthy,” said Mrs. Moyo, a local resident who brought her two dogs, Tango and Jazz, for their shots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This is not just about our pets\u2014it\u2019s about keeping our families and neighbours safe too.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event saw a steady stream of dogs of all breeds and sizes, with veterinary professionals working tirelessly to administer vaccines and share essential pet care guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rabies, a fatal yet preventable disease, remains a serious public health concern in Zimbabwe, making such initiatives critically important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Sibanda, a veterinarian overseeing the campaign, emphasized the broader significance of the effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Vaccinating pets is a vital part of responsible pet ownership and community health. Preventing diseases in animals directly translates to protecting people,” he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The drive was met with widespread appreciation from residents, many of whom noted the accessibility and importance of the service. Brandon Ncube, another local resident, said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It\u2019s good they brought this to our area; it\u2019s helping us look after our pets properly without struggling to access clinics.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thandiwe, who brought her dog Simba for vaccination, echoed this sentiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I\u2019m grateful for this opportunity. It\u2019s affordable, convenient, and it shows someone cares about our animals and our community.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The successful turnout has sparked calls for more regular drives of this kind, with hopes that today\u2019s effort will pave the way for sustained collaboration between authorities, veterinary services, and communities to enhance animal welfare and public health across Bulawayo\u2019s suburbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
