The Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA) has announced that the construction of the new, modernized Dema Toll Plaza along the Chitungwiza-Wedza highway is on track for completion in the fourth quarter of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new plaza will mark a significant upgrade, replacing the current two-lane system with a six-lane facility designed to ease chronic congestion. Two of the lanes will be dedicated to an e-tag system for faster processing. The infrastructure will include a durable canopy, enhanced lighting, safety signage, and a triple-tier backup power system to ensure 24\/7 operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a key innovation, a 24\/7 vehicle licensing office will be integrated into the plaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMotorists will be able to license their vehicles at the toll plaza at any time of the day,\u201d ZINARA stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis will significantly improve compliance and alleviate the burden on existing licensing centres.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The relocation of the tollgate further south along the Harare\u2013Hwedza Road follows complaints from residents and local MPs who argued its previous location in a growing residential area unfairly burdened daily commuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis upgrade is a key milestone in our efforts to transform tolling infrastructure across the country,\u201d ZINARA said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe new Dema toll plaza will reduce congestion and provide a faster, more convenient experience for motorists.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ZiG6.1 Billion Disbursed for Road Rehabilitation<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a related development, ZINARA revealed it has disbursed ZiG6.1 billion to fund critical roadworks across the country. This funding is part of the government\u2019s broader Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP2), which has so far rehabilitated over 50,000 kilometres of road and attended to 2,000 structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ZINARA board chairperson George Manyaya confirmed the disbursement, stating,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo far, we have disbursed ZiG6.1 billion for road works across the country, and funds are still there for works to continue as we move ahead to fulfil our mandate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A major beneficiary of this funding is the ongoing dualisation of the Harare-Mazowe Road. Exodus & Company, the contractor, affirmed that the project is on schedule. Engineer Alex Mashangu stated that the current section from the New Parliament access road to Blueridge is slated for completion by December, with parallel works continuing into Mazowe set to be finished by September 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Transport and Infrastructural Development Deputy Minister Joshua Sacco said the ministry is focused on building durable roads and boosting confidence in local contractors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The upgraded infrastructure is seen as vital for economic growth, facilitating trade and improving domestic connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
