MUTASA \u2013 A family dispute in Mutasa has taken a supernatural turn, with a local vendor alleging that her aunt’s potato thefts are not only ruining her business but also causing her to suffer sudden, mysterious blindness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The unusual case was brought before Chief Mutasa’s community court last Saturday, where Margaret Foro presented her claims against her aunt, Rudo Matekenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Foro asserted that for the past four months, every time her potato stock disappeared from a shared storeroom, she would be struck by a severe illness that included vision loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Each time my potatoes are stolen, I lose my sight, suffer severe headaches, and spend months in bed,” Foro told the court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I am sure my aunt is involved because my potatoes always disappear after she visits the storeroom.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The claimant’s mother, Benadette Chikeya, supported her daughter’s extraordinary allegations, suggesting supernatural forces were at work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This is not ordinary theft,” Chikeya stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We need to consult traditional healers to get to the bottom of this witchcraft.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The accused aunt vehemently denied both the theft and the supernatural accusations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I am not a thief or a witch,” Matekenya argued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Everyone who uses the storeroom has experienced theft, including me. It is unfair to single me out.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her father, Martin Matekenya, dismissed the claims as “unreasonable” and firmly refused to participate in any traditional healing consultations to address the allegations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After hearing both sides of the extraordinary family conflict, Chief Mutasa offered practical advice, steering clear of the supernatural elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“If you suspect potato theft, go to the police. This court does not handle witchcraft claims,” he ruled, while encouraging the families to seek peaceful resolution and avoid further conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that any spiritual guidance should be sought privately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
