{"id":9086,"date":"2025-09-15T08:20:28","date_gmt":"2025-09-15T08:20:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=9086"},"modified":"2025-09-15T08:20:29","modified_gmt":"2025-09-15T08:20:29","slug":"zimbabwe-police-chief-joins-african-leaders-at-major-interpol-summit-to-combat-transnational-crime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=9086","title":{"rendered":"Zimbabwe Police Chief Joins African Leaders at Major INTERPOL Summit to Combat Transnational Crime"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><br>Innocent Sibonginkosi Ncube<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CAPE TOWN, South Africa \u2013 Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner General, Stephen Mutamba, was among 188 senior police leaders from across Africa who convened in Cape Town this week for a high-level INTERPOL conference focused on strengthening regional security cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The three-day INTERPOL African Regional Conference, held under the theme \u2018Leveraging cooperation, innovation, and partnerships to fight transnational organised crime,\u2019 served as a critical platform for law enforcement chiefs to devise a unified strategy against cross-border criminal threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his opening address, South Africa\u2019s Acting Minister of Police, Professor Firoz Cachalia, underscored the gravity of the challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTransnational organised crime remains one of the most serious threats to peace, stability, and development across Africa and beyond,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe task before us is daunting, but it is also inspiring. Our collective resolve, our shared expertise, and our commitment to cooperation give us reason to be hopeful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference addressed a spectrum of pressing regional security issues, including human trafficking, migrant smuggling, environmental crimes, and cattle theft linked to terrorism financing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>South African Police Service National Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, emphasised the necessity of a borderless response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe gather today not merely as representatives of our respective countries, but as partners bound by a shared responsibility\u2026 Transnational crime knows no borders and our response cannot be confined by borders either,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>INTERPOL President Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi echoed the sentiment of collective action, stating,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe theme of this conference reflects the urgent challenges we face, but more importantly, it signals our shared determination to find solutions together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gathering, chaired by INTERPOL\u2019s vice president for Africa, Mohammed Dkhissi, highlighted the role of innovation and information-sharing in modern policing.
