HARARE, ZIMBABWE \u2013 From the humble beginnings of a church praise team in Mabvuku to the prestigious halls of the Zimbabwe College of Music, Norman “Nate Chando”, is rapidly establishing himself as a formidable and versatile talent in the nation’s music scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While many know him as the captivating saxophonist lighting up events across the capital, Chando\u2019s artistry runs much deeper, rooted in a profound passion for musical discovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The young artist\u2019s journey began in 2015, a pivotal year that set his life on a new course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“My passion for music began in church when I joined the praise and worship team in 2015 and started writing my own songs,” Chando recalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This creative spark was fanned into a flame by the unwavering support of his community and family, a debt he gratefully acknowledges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“With the support of friends, relatives, and my parents, especially my father, I’ve become the person I am today.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A significant turning point came in 2022 with a pivotal paternal nudge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“My father suggested I attend a music school,”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chando stated, a decision that would unlock a hidden world of talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This formal training at music school proved transformative, helping him<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“discover my hidden abilities in playing musical instruments.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While he is now proficient in a range of instruments from the traditional mbira and marimba to the recorder, it is the saxophone that has become his signature voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His fascination with the instrument is a lifelong affair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Since childhood, I’ve been fascinated by the sound of the saxophone,” he shares,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to learn to play it in college.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the dedicated tutelage of Tanatswa Marara, who taught him “from scratch” starting in October 2023, Chando\u2019s saxophone skills have soared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Drawing inspiration from both international and local greats like Jose Sax and Denilson Musekiwa, he has quickly transitioned from student to a sought-after performer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, Nate Chando is a familiar presence at corporate functions, weddings, and unique surprise deliveries, captivating audiences both as a solo artist and with a full band setup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As he diligently works towards his bachelor’s degree in music, this young, unmarried musician from Mabvuku is not just playing notes; he is composing a promising future for himself, one melody at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
