{"id":9012,"date":"2025-09-11T09:49:04","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T09:49:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=9012"},"modified":"2025-09-11T09:49:06","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T09:49:06","slug":"minister-condemns-exclusion-of-traditional-leaders-in-development-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=9012","title":{"rendered":"Minister Condemns Exclusion of Traditional Leaders in Development Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><br>Mat South Correspondent<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GWANDA \u2013 The Minister of State for Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Albert Nguluvhe, has issued a stern warning to government departments and development partners against sidelining traditional leaders when implementing community programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing stakeholders in Gwanda, Minister Nguluvhe expressed deep concern over reports of projects being rolled out in communities without the involvement or knowledge of local chiefs and headmen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s concerning to see that some of you are going into communities to implement various programmes without the knowledge of traditional leaders in those areas,\u201d the Minister stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs development partners, please ensure that you observe and respect the authority of traditional leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Nguluvhe stressed that the involvement of traditional leadership is not optional but essential for any initiative. He emphasised the need to respect indigenous laws and ensure that leaders also benefit from projects like borehole drilling and road maintenance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen we undertake development initiatives\u2026 we must ensure that chiefs also benefit from these projects,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEmpowering chiefs translates to empowering entire communities, as they have oversight over the welfare of their people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister highlighted the critical role chiefs play in preserving culture, promoting behaviour change, and driving the national development agenda.
