His rebrand to Asaph—meaning “Jehovah has gathered”—signaled a shift to mainstream hip-hop, a move that quickly paid dividends. His 2015 project KingsVilla earned a nomination at the Zim Hip Hop Awards, while his co-founded group BurgBoiz took home the award for Best Group that same year.

But it was the 2018 mega-hit MAMBO that cemented his status as a national star. The track dominated Zimbabwe’s ZiFM Gtel Top 40 chart for over two months, a nearly unprecedented feat for a hip-hop track, and swept award shows the following year. He quickly followed it with 2019’s V.I.C. (Vibe Is Correct), which further proved his hit-making prowess and earned him more critical acclaim.

What sets Asaph apart is a career built on more than just hits. In 2021, his pioneering status was confirmed with a landmark signing to Def Jam Recordings Africa, opening doors for pan-African collaborations like the popular Thebelele with South Africa’s Loki.

Beyond the music, Asaph has cultivated a role as a mentor and cultural commentator. He hosts two weekly shows on Skyz Metro FM, using his platform to spotlight emerging talent and dissect pressing social issues. Tracks like Asipheli Moya tackle themes of systemic abuse and injustice, making his music a soundtrack for youth-led conversations on empowerment and identity.

This focus on community and authenticity is what defines his 2025 output. The year began with the deeply personal Forever Yours, a heartfelt dedication to his wife and daughter celebrated for its vulnerability. This was followed by the vibrant, community-focused anthem Living the Life, a track that merges hip-hop with African rhythms to encourage listeners to embrace joy and their roots.

From representing Zimbabwe at the MTV Africa Music Awards to participating in a U.S. State Department cultural exchange program, Asaph Afrika’s vibe continues to resonate on the world stage. Yet, his message remains rooted in the streets that raised him. As he often says, he is “Bulawayo bred, Zimbabwe made”—a true symbol of artistic integrity and a powerful voice for a new generation.
📞 WhatsApp/Hotline: +263 773 820 323
Follow for More:
🌐 Website: www.zimgbcnews.co.zw
📘Facebook: Zim GBC News
🐦 X : @ZimGbc
📸: Instagram: @Zim GBC News

*Zim GBC News | Global News From An African Perspective 2025

Ashley Dean Misho .Arts and Entertainment Reporter The story of Zimbabwean hip-hop is increasingly being written with a Bulawayo accent, thanks to the relentless rise of Asaph Afrika From his…

[127

post-8831","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-arts-and-entertainment
["GET
