The series, set to commence on 29 August at Harare Sports Club, will be captained by Craig Ervine, who leads a blend of experienced stalwarts and emerging talents .

Taylor’s Emotional Return

Taylor, whose last ODI appearance was against Ireland in September 2021, makes a comeback following a three-and-a-half-year ban for breaching the ICC’s anti-corruption code. His inclusion is poised to bolster the team’s middle order and bring invaluable experience to high-pressure situations. Zimbabwe’s Convener of Selectors, David Mutendera, emphasized Taylor’s impact:

“We are delighted to welcome Brendan back into the fold. His experience and quality are invaluable, especially in pressure situations, and his presence will no doubt lift the dressing room.” .

Squad Composition and New Faces

The squad features four players who missed Zimbabwe’s previous ODI series against Ireland: Clive Madande (wicketkeeper), Tony Munyonga (all-rounder), Brad Evans (seamer), and uncapped fast bowler Ernest Masuku. The pace attack gains strength with the return of Richard Ngarava from injury, joining forces with Blessing Muzarabani .

Series Context and Challenges

Zimbabwe last played ODIs in February 2025, winning a 2-1 series against Ireland. Since then, the team has focused on Test and T20I cricket, facing tough contests against South Africa and New Zealand. Head coach Justin Sammons acknowledged the challenge of transitioning to white-ball cricket:

“We’ve just come off a tough red-ball series… Sri Lanka are a strong white-ball side and will punish any lapses, so we need to be sharp from ball one.” .
Captain Craig Ervine echoed this sentiment, stressing the need for flexibility and home advantage .

📅 Fixtures and Broadcast

The ODI series will be followed by three T20Is, all hosted at Harare Sports Club:

· 1st ODI: 29 August (09:30 local time)
· 2nd ODI: 31 August (09:30 local time)
· T20Is: 3, 6, and 7 September .

🗣️ Social Media Engagement

Zim GBC News urges fans to join the conversation using hashtags #Chevrons and #SLvZIM.
